What works locally

Importing, opening, reading, positions and highlights are handled on the Windows device for local files. A network connection is still needed to acquire or update the app through Microsoft Store.

When an account is used

Sign-in is reserved for optional sync and subscription management. The Free signed-in sync tier allows one cloud file up to 20 MB; paid membership expands storage and device limits.

The privacy boundary

Selecting a file for sync uploads that file and its reading data to private account storage. Cloud sync is optional and is not end-to-end encrypted. Keep independent copies of important books and annotations.
